Fees or expenses

In most cases Alistair Holt Ltd is paid by way of commission received from the insurer providing the cover that has been placed with it. (Please refer to Conflicts of Interest and Commission section in this Disclosure below). 

However, where specific planning is required this will be done on a fee basis which will be agreed upon at point of engagement with our clients. This will vary depending on the scope of service being provided. 

 

Conflicts of interest and commissions

  • Alistair Holt is the sole Financial Adviser operating under Alistair Holt Ltd's FAP Licence. 
     

  • Alistair Holt is a Shareholder and Director of the company and is paid primarily by a shareholder salary.
     

  • Alistair Holt Ltd receives all commissions and client fees that are generated.
     

  • All commissions received are subject to clawback if policies are lapsed within a two-year period.
     

  • The amount of clawback varies between carriers but is up to 100%, up to 6 months, then prorated over the remaining 18 months. 
     

  • Alistair Holt Ltd may from time to time receive invitations from insurers to attend educational conferences where the insurer may cover air fares and accommodation etc. 
     

  • Business support is provided by AIA on the XPLAN Client Management System (CMS) that links portfolios to the carrier. This is provided to Alistair Holt Ltd at a reduced rate. 
     

  • Alistair Holt Ltd has access to the Apollo Group Professional Indemnity Insurance Scheme which has been put in place by American International Assurance (AIA). This provides comprehensive cover at the Group Scheme rate. 
     

  • All the insurers provide Business Development Manager support to ensure Alistair Holt Ltd is kept up to date with the product providers' policies. Alistair Holt Ltd does not pay a fee for this service. 

Our advisers receive a salary as an employee of Alistair Holt Ltd. They do not receive any other incentives or commissions based on the financial advice they provide you.  Alistair Holt as a Shareholder Director is also entitled to a profit share such as a Dividend payment.

 

Alistair Holt Limited receive a commission from the product providers/insurers/lenders through which we place business. The amount of the commission we receive depends on the service and product provided. 

Typically, we receive an upfront initial commission of between 10%-220% of the premium and an annual ongoing commission [of between2.5%- 20% for every year [the premium is in force]. We will provide more specific details of these commissions once we have talked to you and understand your needs at the time our advice is given.

 

To ensure our advisers prioritise our clients’ interests :

  • We follow an advice process that ensures our recommendations are made appropriately, based on clients’ goals and circumstances.

  • All our advisers undergo annual training about how to manage conflicts of interest. 

  • We maintain registers of conflicts of interests and the gifts and incentives we receive. These registers are monitored regularly, and additional training is provided as required.

  • We undertake an annual independent Compliance Assurance Review by Strategi.

When we receive a complaint: ​

  • We will consider your complaint and let you know how we intend to resolve it. Where possible, we try to resolve your complaint immediately
    .

  • If we are unable to resolve your complaint immediately, we will acknowledge your complaint within 2 business days. We may contact you to get further information about your complaint.
     

  • We aim to resolve complaints within 10 working days of receiving them. If we need more time to investigate your complaint, we will let you know when you can expect to receive a response to your complaint
     

  • We will contact you by phone, email or letter to let you know whether we can resolve your complaint and how we propose to do so.

 

If we cannot agree on how to fix the issue, or if you decide not to use our internal complaints process, you can contact our external disputes resolution scheme. The Insurance & Financial Services Ombudsman (IFSO) provides a free and independent dispute resolution service that may help to resolve your complaint if we haven’t been able to do so to your satisfaction.

Duties information

Alistair Holt Ltd and our advisers have duties under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 relating to the way that we give advice. 

 

We are required to: 

  • give priority to your interests; 

  • exercise care, diligence, and skill;

  • meet standards of competence, knowledge and skill set by the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services

  • meet standards of ethical behaviour, conduct and client care set by the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services.
